Environmental Sustainability

Sugarcane is grown on some 500,000 hectares of farmland on Australia's eastern coastline.  BSES aims to identify farm practices and products that preserve soils and which protect or even enhance creeks, rivers and coastal waters.

BSES knows that sugarcane growers want their farms to be sustainable and to produce healthy crops for long into the future.  Protecting the soils and waters of every sugarcane growing district is of utmost importance to our industry.  The BSES program of work actively pursues ways for growers to enjoy profitable cane growing while minimising inputs like fertilisers and pesticides, maximising the use of valuable water resources, reducing erosion, and protecting our valuable waterways and Great Barrier Reef.
